As we were driving, I'll never forget my father's stiff posture as he sat reluctantly in the passenger seat, tenaciously clutching the door with what appeared to be a death grip as he repeatedly kept ordering me to slow down. But, Dad! I had exclaimed in frustration, I'm only going 30 miles an hour!
Needless to say, I didn't go driving with my father that often. Later, after I had successfully acquired my driver's license coach wedge shoes, I earned the nickname lead foot from my father. This was based on the fact that any time I would borrow his car to go hang out with friends, I would drive out of our neighborhood too fast.
you know the saying, First impressions leave lasting impressions? Well, similarly, driving for the first time is not something that you easily forget. On a similar note, the skills that you learn and the habits that you develop early on when you firs learn how to drive often stay with you for a significant amount of time before they turn into bad habits or habits that you wish you hadn't developed to begin with.
When I first learned how to drive, I was out running errands with my mom. It was like any other day Baby Handbags clearance, except that when we were driving through the mall parking lot Coach Crossbody Bags, she suddenly made a left turn into an abandoned section of the parking lot. She then stopped the car and turned the ignition off. Before I even asked what she was doing, I already knew. This was the part where she would get out of the car and turn the driver's seat over to me. At this point in my life at the shy age of sixteen years old, I had no idea what sitting in the driver's seat of a car was like. All I knew was that it was something foreign to me. I had no idea what to expect.
Sitting in her seat for the first time, I suddenly became aware of how incredibly nervous I was. She had a nice car, and I did not want to do anything to mess it up. God forbid I crash it into anything. But I should have known my mother better to know that she would never let anything like that happen to me or to her car. Silly me. I tapped the gas at her request very lightly and suddenly the car jolted forward abruptly. I was most certainly NOT used to driving at all. At that point, I was suddenly very thankful that there were no other people, cars or wildlife of any sort near me. In the end, I actually wound up doing pretty well. From that point on, whenever I drove with either one of my parents or with my friends' parents, I found myself paying close attention to little things such as how their hands were positioned on the wheel of their car, etc.
