Jack is tailored to suit Campbell’s screen persona of the arrogant [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but likeable jerk [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whose heroism saves the day though only after he has done something stupid and put everybody else in danger. Call it the Moonlighting formula if you like. He is fun-loving while she is serious and a little uptight. Emilia does however prove herself Jack’s equal with her intelligence and her gift for invention.
Bruce Campbell Stars in Jack of All Trades
Jack of All Trades was cancelled early into his second season. The production values are cheap and so are the special effects, but the scripts are good and Campbell has more than enough charisma to carry this kind of material. Jack of All Trades is an underrated gem and well worth discovering for fans of Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi. Hell of a theme tune as well.
Cult B-movie star Bruce Campbell stars in this swashbuckling comedy show. America’s greatest secret agent, Jack Stiles (Campbell), is assigned to Palau Palau by President Thomas Jefferson. Jack fought against the British in the war of Independence and is less than impressed when he finds himself partnered with one of their spies.
During the series run Jack and Emilia found themselves encountering a number of real-life figures including, the Marquis de Sade, Blackbeard the pirate and mad King George the III. It’s Napoleon who really gets it though. The little Emperor is re-imagined as a malign, sex-crazed dwarf and Verne Troyer holds nothing back in his performance.
Emilia Rothchild (Angela Dotchin) is an uptight, but extremely beautiful Englishwoman with a talent for invention. The islanders’ talk of a legendary hero called the Daring Dragoon. Jack assumes the identity of the Dragoon and sets about foiling the plans of Governor Croque (Stuart Devenie) and his right-hand man Captain Brogard (Stephen Papps).
Historical Figures in Jack of All Trades
Put together by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the team behind Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1994-99) and Xena Warrior Princess (1995-2001), Jack of All Trades has a similarly irreverent tone. Campbell’s cynical wisecracks and physical agility will be familiar to fans of the Raimi-directed Evil Dead movies the two men first found fame with. Though Raimi was involved the show was created by Eric Morris who had previously scripted episodes of Raimi’s short lived Spy Game (1997).
